Understanding Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment that encourages the skin to repair and renew itself. It is popular because it can support several common concerns at once: texture, fine lines, acne marks, enlarged pores and early loss of firmness.
What is Microneedling?
Using the Dermalogica Pro Pen, microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin's surface. These tiny punctures trigger the body's natural healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production.
The treatment is not about damaging the skin aggressively. The aim is controlled stimulation. The skin responds by sending repair signals to the treated area, which helps rebuild structure over time.
Benefits of Microneedling
Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles The increased collagen production helps plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Many clients report smoother, more youthful-looking skin after a course of treatments.
Improves Skin Texture If you struggle with rough or uneven skin texture, microneedling can help. The treatment promotes cell turnover, revealing smoother, more refined skin.
Minimises Scarring and Pigmentation Microneedling is particularly effective for reducing the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and hyperpigmentation. The collagen rebuilding process helps fade these imperfections over time.
Enhances Product Absorption The micro-channels created during treatment allow skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, maximising their effectiveness.
Who Usually Books Microneedling?
Clients often choose microneedling when home skincare has improved the surface of the skin but has not gone far enough. It can be useful for:
- Post-acne marks and shallow acne scarring
- Rough or uneven texture
- Early fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Dull skin that lacks firmness
- Mild pigmentation and uneven tone
Microneedling is not the right option for every skin on every day. If your skin is inflamed, very reactive, recently sunburnt or dealing with an active breakout, Delia may recommend waiting or choosing a gentler treatment first.
What to Expect
A microneedling session with Delia takes approximately 60 minutes. She uses professional products selected to support comfort, recovery and skin barrier health during and after the treatment.
The appointment includes consultation, skin preparation, the microneedling treatment itself, recovery-focused products and clear aftercare advice. Delia brings the treatment setup to your home, so you do not need to travel immediately after an intensive skin treatment.
Aftercare
Your skin may appear slightly pink or red for 24-48 hours after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. Delia will provide detailed aftercare instructions including avoiding sun exposure and using gentle skincare products.
For the first day or two, keep your routine simple. Avoid strong exfoliants, retinoids, heavy exercise, heat treatments and direct sun exposure. SPF is important after any resurfacing or collagen-focused treatment.
How Many Sessions Do You Need?
Some clients notice a fresher look after one appointment, but collagen-focused changes build gradually. A course of treatments is usually better for acne scarring, texture or firmness concerns.
Delia can recommend a schedule based on your skin, your goals and how your skin responds after the first session.
Is Microneedling Right for You?
Microneedling is suitable for most skin types and can address various concerns including ageing, scarring, and uneven texture. A consultation with Delia will determine if this treatment is appropriate for your specific needs.
